I don’t remember whose, or which blog I stumbled upon this, but they should have at the least given their readers a heads up. Knowing that this was going to be on the other side of the rabbit hole, I wouldn’t have gone and clicked.
Two hours later, I am still stumped, and frozen in my seat. From contemplating on the current state of my life and the income I bring in, to pondering if I really could sell my kidney. It’s the type of introspective reflection only amazing and sadly, pricey Sportswear and Military Jackets can do to me.
To those who share the same reaction, here’s the appropriate label for you, just in case you decide to read on…
“Nike Sportswear Autumn 2009-2010, Not Safe for Work.”
Who ever is at the helm of Nike Sportswear must be hunched over by now, from all the pats he’s received on the back. With the exception of the usual running shoe, and loop wheeler sweatshirt, that are mandatory and the world could have done without, there are pieces in their latest collection that could easily make up for years, and years of rubbish.
The outwear in particular, is something I find incredibly amazing. Staring at the collection, I tend to ask myself whether or not it is Nike I’m really looking at. The Varsity Jacket and Military Jackets look like they’d be from the likes of APC, and Engineered Garments. Doused with a generous amount of Gore-tex shells, and high tech construction, I’d even venture out and say that, from a consumer perspective, they might possibly even be better.
Iconic pieces, neutral color palette, it hovers around that sweet spot between work wear, prep, and classic American sportswear. I reckon it’d be fun to throw these things into an Editorial and have people jaws drop when they read the fine print.
At the rate and speed that the internet, blogs, websites deliver us new products, new art, new everything, it’s safe to say that a majority of the people who frequently browse have grown a lot desensitized. There is though, once in awhile an encounter with the amazing.
Here’s Nike performing out of its skin, to give us just that.
