The Domino Effect
There was a joke somewhere here. At some point a long the line, they must have been a tipping point, and, honestly, it would have been a crime not to stick with it. It’s a rare thing, to chance on something brilliant, more-so on a stroke of genius.
Doing the simply epic, behind every great band, there’s a 27-year-old from Leeds. Taking back the title of whitest boy alive, have a listen to Brett Domino, and the Brett Domino Trio.
Remember The Name
“Remember, bury those fucking fairies, you bury them from where you stand, and play safe.”
You can finally throw your Fight Club rules out of the window, because here is your new anthem.
Up, Over, And Away
Cycling can start to make things look very relative, the better one gets at it. Bigger and higher stairs, start to look more like drops, and gaps. Sidewalks and ledges change from city infrastructure to obstacles, asking the question whether you can get up and over them or not.
Not too many things can do that to people. How an introduction of two wheels, and a couple gears can entirely change the way a rider looks at the world. Freedom, only compromised by only your own limits.
And here’s a guy without too many. Twelve millions views strong, if you’ve yet to see this, the next couple of minutes would probably be worth the time. Danny Macaskill on Inspired Cycles, with one of the best trials videos of all time.
Introspect
In These Few Seconds
There is nothing more elusive than a moment.
Among the billion that make up our day, there are some to remember, and some, one could live without. They range from the infinitely beautiful, to the awfully grotesque. Momentously brief, and sometimes infinitely long, we smile and frown at the guarantee that they are only once over.
From these brief sparks, come about the world’s stories, and novels, painted pictures attempt to hold still the setting sun. I like this film. Not as much for its excellent audio, and the amazing cinematography, but as it is, an invitation to live in the moment, and look at what we have now.
Two Steps Forward
Aqualta: Times Square at Night, NYC by Studio Lindfors
“…the water line is at the fourth story of buildings and the rich people are dry in the Catskills. Kids are making music on their cell phones and grilling octopi.”
A gondola is being squeeze through a flooded Times Square, the signs, still afire. Aqualta is a series of images that tours one through the cities the future. Entire expanses of Tokyo, Venice, and New York, submerged in water, the images are a far-cry from the ash covered metropoli of 2012-fame.
The post apocalyptic usually tends to lean towards the grim and theatric. I’d apologize for the anti-climax, but couldn’t it be possibly a tipping point towards a world more beautiful? I wouldn’t mind the change. Pen tablets and laptops, for shivs and fishing rods. Chip off some muscles growing out the 3rd floor window, call some friends over and have a giant pot roast.
I could only imagine the giant spike in LL Bean boot sales, they’d probably end up ruling the world. Them, the guys at Tabasco, and anyone who can still make quick-melt cheese.
Where They Hang The Lights
Photograph of Maunsell Sea Forts.
Let’s live off the coast, in a stilt fortress. Safe from the world, far away from the torture.
Made in the 1940s, these stood to provide anti-aircraft fire for ships during the war. They now look more like lost relics. Bits and pieces, time traveled from post-apocalyptic future, where cities like these, would riddle the oceans, shanty town refuges for the last living souls.
There’s a feeling of eventuality to it. That is the end point. Living on rusty stilts in the middle of nowhere, on a spec of dust in the middle of nowhere. I doubt you could feel anymore alone.
Snow White
“Re_ is an attitude. A call to start thousands of actions that we need to carry together. And we need to start now.”
What do you see? Certainly not a call to action. Here’s a better view.
Note To Self
A Self-imposed Exercise.
I haven’t made anything in awhile. Odd that I don’t feel too thrilled when I do either. An attempt to reconcile what I like to do, and what I’m suppose to do. With most things, maybe it gets less difficult the more you try.
