Here’s the artsier, tumblr worthy bits of that night. There’s some amazing portraits too that I’d care to post but it just didn’t seem to fit in this string. Maybe tomorrow, maybe not. For the impatient / those who want to flip through it now, you can view it on my flickr by clicking here.
Two Minutes of Cinematic Goodness by Blizzard.
Anyone still remember their first encounter with Starcraft? Roughly ten years ago, I’m surprised at how vividly I remember it. Coming from a person that sometimes struggles with “five days ago”, it only adds testament to how significant this game was for a generation who first ran into it in their hormonally imbalanced puberty years.
Nineteen Ninety Eight, Price Club Costco. It looked a lot like the current SNR we have over in the Fort. Exchange the first couple of rows after the medicine isle into two low level tables. Boxed software still common, the tables would be jam packed. Stacks side stacks of Flight Simulators, Encyclopedias (whatever happen to those?), typical skim through content, spare the rare Mechwarrior. It was all very boring until the day happened.
Black and blue, the cover had this shiny gloss, textured to the extent that it almost felt embossed. A velcro dot, held the cover closed. From the perspective of a kid who felt mortified after stealing a Legacy of Kain demo CD “left” on the grocery magazine racks, even opening it was a step too far for my then goody-two-shoes. But eff though, older people were having at it, and curiosity eventually got the best of.
A blue faced alien, sans of features. It, he, was flanked by a scarier one, and an oogle-eyed man in armor. Into the cover spread, and the first thing in my head, past the awe, was.. “This isn’t anything like Command and Conquer.” Out of all the game play pegs on the spread, I remember a particular one catching my eye. A row of marines firing volleys at what looked like a map wide purple surge of Zerglings (more flood like than anything). The entire packaged worked to great effect, as I didn’t make it to the next door Toy’s R Us that day. No Beast Wars pick up that week, or for the next couple of weeks, if I remember correctly.
For a preteen me, pimples on my forehead, sucking at pull-ups and dumbfounded by this thing called girls, Starcraft was it. At a stage in my life where seemed under my control, the satisfaction of being able to Reaver Drop on some suckass on Battle.net told me there was. Just follow the build order, and everything will be alright.
P.S. Do watch the Wings of Liberty Trailer (above) in 720p. It’s mandatory.
Die Antwoord.. Jack Parow, Yolandi, Ninja, Leon Botha, next level.
Considering 80% of it is English has my head in a spin. South Africa? Wasn’t their last cultural ambassador Charlize Theron? Totally misrepresented. A part of me also suddenly realizes where all the Jeremy Scott product in the world is making money. And, just when I thought I had it all figured, there’s the lyrics to “beat boy”.. branesplode. You understand? Me neither. Odd thing is, I think I want more.
Fluxxe Whatever Thursdays @ 32nd Street, Karport, The Fort
Do come over later, and swing by to be involved in our dissertation on human eroticism and the side effects of visceral sonic stimuli above 0.0 db. First up will be my dear colleague Dr. Starlight who will be administered electric shock treatment through the opthalmus via jumper cables.
This experiment will shortly be followed by a study on human exposure to cosmic starlight fractal explosions and it’s effects on the retinas and the thing behind the retinas. The leading expert on the dissertation matter, Dr. Babynutz shall be narrating the progress of the studies as the experiment continues to egress. Thank you for your participation.
Disclaimer: Write-up above, and photo used for the poster

Jujin’s Exhibit No. 1, Photos from mer de noms.
The crowd was about eclectic a mix as the artwork on display that day on Rada street. Down to the point where I was walking towards the crowd of people outside, I still didn’t know what to expect. And, it being Jujin’s Exhibit No. 1, I’d like to think that perhaps the auteur wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Much a shock the art and the fashion was for me, more so was the oddity that it managed to bring all these people together. Now, I wasn’t sure how to place things. Whether it was venue serving as catalyst, or art, or the subject of the art, or artist, but there’s this mystery variable that, when factored in, made the twilight zone coexistence possible.
I hope this doesn’t get cyber-misconstrued, as I do mean odd in the best of ways. It isn’t so often that one can find it a place where feathers, queens, skaters, leather, chiffon, sequins, whatever clad you, can stand shoulder to shoulder without much pretense. Like maple syrup falling dribbling off your pancakes and onto your bacon for breakfast, you know it’s not suppose to be there but its good anyways.
With all that said, maybe it should be left at it too? Like a lot of the stereotypes and preconceptions that people carried that night, once past the crowd of smokers by the door, side shuffle up the stairs and through the door, it shouldn’t matter. And even for a couple hours, whether you be clad in an orange dress or not, it didn’t.
